External Accountant / Accounting Support

Company: Tyrogen Limited (16884876)
Function: External accounting support and specialist finance assurance
Reports to: Internal Finance Lead / governance-finance route
Accountable to: The internal finance owner and the relevant governance-finance oversight route
Role type: External adviser / support role
Engagement model: External adviser or firm engaged under written terms
Remuneration basis: Monthly retainer or fixed service package, as set out centrally in Role Profiles section 4.4
Review cycle: At least annual, and on any material scope, service, or governance change

Role purpose

The External Accountant / Accounting Support role provides specialist accounting support that strengthens the credibility, discipline, and continuity of Tyrogen's finance-support route. The role supports financial control, statutory or tax-related obligations, bookkeeping review where required, and the availability of specialist finance input without displacing Tyrogen's own accountability for governance and financial oversight.

Role scope

The role supports Tyrogen's finance function through external accounting or advisory input covering, as applicable:

  • bookkeeping review,
  • statutory accounts support,
  • tax-related support,
  • financial review and assurance input,
  • specialist accounting advice proportionate to scale and need,
  • and support for finance credibility within the wider governance environment.

Key responsibilities

The External Accountant / Accounting Support role will:

  • provide accounting support proportionate to Tyrogen's scale and service requirements,
  • support bookkeeping review, statutory accounts preparation, tax support, or related finance activity as engaged,
  • provide specialist accounting input where internal finance oversight requires external support,
  • support the orderly maintenance of accounting records and finance outputs within the agreed engagement scope,
  • identify and raise accounting, control, or reporting concerns relevant to the agreed service,
  • support a credible and governable finance-support route,
  • coordinate with the internal finance owner on information requirements, timelines, and follow-up actions,
  • and contribute to financial discipline and evidence readiness within the limits of the agreed engagement.

Decision-making and authority

The External Accountant / Accounting Support role has authority to:

  • advise on accounting treatment, reporting, or support actions within the engagement scope,
  • request information, records, or clarification required to perform the agreed support,
  • identify and raise concerns where records, assumptions, or accounting inputs appear insufficient,
  • require visibility of the engagement scope and the specific finance-support outputs needed for governance, statutory, or readiness purposes,
  • and recommend corrective action or follow-up where finance-support issues are identified.

The role does not replace the internal finance owner, the Governing Body, or required independent judgement in standards, appeals, malpractice, or other regulated decision routes.

Regulatory and control context

The External Accountant / Accounting Support role sits within Tyrogen's regulated finance-support architecture as a specialist external support route that strengthens credibility, continuity, and orderly financial record production without displacing Tyrogen's own accountability. In particular, the role supports:

  • the financial-resources and facilities expectations under Ofqual Criteria C.1(b),
  • the requirement that accountant support, bookkeeping review, statutory outputs, and related finance evidence are governed through a defined and reviewable support route rather than assumed informally,
  • operation of the wider finance-control environment through Financial Controls and Monitoring,
  • evidence readiness for statutory, governance, and regulated-readiness finance review where external support is part of the relied-on model,
  • and the boundary that external finance support can strengthen Tyrogen's control environment but cannot substitute for Tyrogen's own governance ownership, escalation responsibilities, or funded-readiness decisions.

Where the agreed support scope is insufficient, where accounting records are unreliable, or where the finance-support route is not credible for the readiness position Tyrogen is presenting, the issue must be escalated to the internal finance owner and governance route rather than left as an undeclared dependency gap.

Working relationships

The External Accountant / Accounting Support role works closely with:

  • the Finance Lead,
  • the Governing Body where finance reporting or assurance input is required,
  • the Responsible Officer where regulated-readiness finance visibility is relevant,
  • and other internal roles where financial records, commitments, or supporting evidence need coordination.

Person specification

The role-holder or service provider is expected to demonstrate:

Essential

  • accounting capability proportionate to Tyrogen's scale and requirements,
  • ability to provide reliable, timely, and professional finance support,
  • ability to review and work with financial records accurately,
  • sound professional judgement,
  • clear communication on accounting or reporting matters,
  • and ability to work within documented scope, timelines, and governance expectations.

Desirable

  • experience supporting small or scaling organisations,
  • experience in contractor-led, early-stage, or governance-sensitive environments,
  • and familiarity with assurance, audit support, or controlled-document finance settings.

Independence and conflicts requirements

  • Any conflict affecting professional advice, accounting assurance, or financial support must be declared and managed.
  • The role must not create the impression that external accounting support replaces Tyrogen's own governance accountability.
  • Accounting advice or support must not be distorted by undeclared supplier, commercial, or outcome-linked incentives.
  • Any remuneration or commercial arrangement that could distort objective professional advice must be declared and managed.

Measures of success / KPIs

The effectiveness of the External Accountant / Accounting Support role may be evidenced through:

  • agreed accounting outputs delivered within expected timescales,
  • finance-support records remaining accurate and professionally usable,
  • timely identification of accounting or record-quality issues,
  • effective coordination with the internal finance owner,
  • support for orderly statutory, tax, or review activity within scope,
  • reduction in avoidable finance-support gaps or unresolved accounting issues,
  • and external support contributing to a more credible and governable finance route.

Outputs and records

The role is expected to contribute to or oversee, within scope:

  • bookkeeping review outputs,
  • statutory accounts support records,
  • tax-related working papers or correspondence,
  • finance-support notes or issue logs,

Appointment to the role should be supported by:

  • clear written engagement terms,
